PicAxe08M V3.5 Programmer/Protoboard BottomApril 10, 2009 - The PicAxe-18 Programmer/Protoboard works great. I couldn't wait for my DB9 Female sockets to come in (I ordered them from China). So I recycled it again. I think it has been used on about 5 other boards.

I only made one major mistake with this one. I never connected the ground net on the processor (pin 5) to the ground for the circuit. One small jumper wire had it working. So, I reworked the circuit.I also had to do a little work with the alignment of the pins to the breadboard.Now they fit perfectly.

It has a reset switch and power on LED. You can apply 5V from th top power connector or from the breadboard side.

I also included a few pictures of the protoboard in action and one of my test rig. I have some LEDs with resistors attached. A couple of pushbuttons, a switch and two potentiometers. Everything needed to do some prototyping.

The numbers on the end of the board correspond to the pin numbers of the chip (input/output numbers). If you can think of any additions or imporvements, let me know!

Circuit used: I drew up the programming circuit in Diptrace (you can download the free version for personal use) with information I got from Revolution Education Ltd.'s data sheets. You can download the prgramming software for free (Download it here!).

Construction Notes: Parts include: You will need 6 - 10K, a 22K resistor, a 4.7K resistor, and 330 ohm resistor for the LED, a momentary push button, an 18 pin socket, and a DB9 female socket. You are also going to need a bunch of extra long header pins. I etched the PCB using the same method in my Making PCBs with Toner Transfer. You can download my Diptrace files here.
