Just Another Penduluum Project Schematic

MagBot Schematic from CostaRica Beam

Circuit used: Magbot Schematic from CostaRica Beam. I believe the original schemtic was in the Junkbots, Bugbots and Bots on Wheels book. You can even order the SunSwinger Kit from Solarbotics! You can download the PDF for the kit from here. There are a few differences in the schematics, but they are not overly critical to the operation.

Part List: Solar Cell >2V output (I used a solar cell from a cheap calculator). The schematic above calls for a 4700uf capacitor, but I used a 3300uf. I did use the 1000uf capacitor and the rest as listed: 1 diode (1N4001 or 1N4148), 2N3904, 2N3906, 2 resistors(100K) a LED, a magnet and a coil. The coil used here is the Major Henry Coil from Solarbotics.

Construction Notes:
Building the circuit is fairly straight forward. I free formed the circuit per the schematic, starting with the two transistors. I glued them face to face and marked the 2N3904 with some whiteout.

The trickest part, for me anyway, was figuring out how I was going to mount it all up. I had originally selected a square magnet, but when it triggered, the kept pushing at an angle instead of straight across the coil. I never could get it mounted in a way to get it going straight. So, I finally gave up and changed it out with a disc shaped magnet and it started working alot better.

I had my doubts about my little solar cell, but it works great! Enjoy!
