Finishes SideAfter four years in the works, it is finally finished! I got the DC-to-DC converter in and the USB Wireless adapter. The new Atom mainboard with 2GB of ram runs great. I got the OS loaded. I installed the Atari emulator (see AtariPC Mod - Page 4 for links to the emulator and games). Fortunately, most of the old Atari games are now in the public domain. So, enjoy!

I think that it turned out ok. If I had to do it over again (highly unlikely), I would have done a few things a little bit differently. I fould have move the internal USB ports to the rear joystick ports. It would have added more to the cost.

I was going to get some USB to Atari joystick adapters. But, the cost was too high (over $30 each). I did find an alternative from a company called Legacy Engineering. They make a USB joystick just like the old Atari joystick, and they are under $16 each. The downside is that they are currently out of stock. But, I have a couple of months before AJ's Birthday (my deadline). So, I am going to hold off sending it to him till I get the joysticks. It will be a lot more fun with the joysticks.

This has been a lot of fun to build. I can't wait till AJ gets it. He has been following the build here and can't wait till he gets it.Finished Front of UnitDesktop

August 30, 2009: I finally have the boards on the way to complete the Joysticks! So, in anticipation, I have cleaned and repainted both joysticks. When I last emailed Legacy Engineering, they are to ship on Monday (TOMORROW!). Here are a few pictures (before and after painting).

September 30, 2009: I finally received my order from Legacy Engineering! After all of the delays, I was just grateful to receive them. But, they did me one better! They sent two brand spanking new USB Joysticks! I just needed to paint the ring around the stick to make them look like the original Atari joysticks and I would be done. So, I did it! Here they are in all of thier glory! I am hoping to get them mailed off buy Monday. Without further delay... Here are they joysticks!
